Cycles noise is now blue, and it looks better
Since Blender 4.4, Cycles takes its samples using a 'blue-noise' pattern. So your low sample Cylces renders now look smoother :)

Today we're going to use math and nature as inspiration to create some cool patterns with Geometry Nodes. We're going to use the Fibonacci sequence and the Golden Ratio to create a pattern that's similar to the seed arrangements found in flowers. It's based on some very simple principles, but can create some really interesting and complex looking patterns.

Two years ago, I did a tutorial on how to make (nicer) text with Geometry Nodes. A lot of people thought it was useful, but I also got a lot of requests to take it a step further: Bevel the text! So that's what I'm sharing today...

I'm planning to cover a bunch of the Blender render settings in a few different articles. The main goal will be render optimization. With render optimization, I am talking about: Reducing render time and/or cost while still getting a high quality render. In this first article I'll cover the Noise Threshold setting.

At Blendergrid we've been rendering 3D imagery for all sorts of applications. Recently we've been running Blender in a rather unusual way. We're using Blender to render so called synthetic training data for computer vision algorithms.

I recently found myself in a situation where I needed to dynamically smooth part of a mesh. I sort of stumbled upon an amazing way to smooth geometry with Geometry Nodes in Blender, so that's what I wanted to share in this article and video.

Today I'm sharing a quick tip on how to get more control over the topology of your text meshes in Blender. The default Blender text can become quite a mess if you want to convert it to a mesh. With Geometry Nodes, we can have a lot more control over the final topology.

What if you want to use your 3D model/scene and generate a collection of 3D renders from it? That's what we'll talk about in this article. And we'll do it in a generative / automated way so you don't have to create each combination by hand.

In this Blender tutorial we're covering how to use 2D elements in a 3D Blender scene. If you don't need the complexity of 3D geometry, 2D assets can be a great way to increase the complexity of your scene without adding much render time! In the video, Mike is sharing some great tips and tricks he figured out.

When you're rendering with Cycles, some areas of the image might already be looking nice and clean, while others are still very grainy. Wouldn't it be amazing if you could laser-focus that expensive render time on those grainy bits? In a "smart" way?

There is a sneaky render setting in Blender that can increase your render time by 128x (or more) with a single click. It's called "Square Samples" and if you're not familiar with what this setting is doing, you might be in for a bad time!

Since version 2.8, Blender has supported the cryptomatte standard for generating compositing masks in Cycles. And more recently, since Blender 2.92 Alpha, this feature has been expanded to support Eevee along with support for Shader AOVs. In this guide, I'm going to walk through how to use cryptomattes and AOVs to your advantage in Blender.

Oblique projections cannot be created simply by the pointing the orthographic camera in the right direction. If you look at the middle and right images in the thumbnail, you'll see that one side of the cube-castle appears as a square, and yet two other sides are still visible. This tutorial explains how to render the three projections on the thumbnail.

Pixar has long been hailed as one of the top innovators in 3D animation since the early 90s. Given that, the studio has quite a few tricks up its sleeve to optimize their projects and animations. Today I'm going to share a couple of them with you and show how you can take advantage of some of the same technologies used by Pixar in their 3D animation pipeline.

Have you seen the shiny blue Suzanne render on our homepage? It's rendered with Blender obviously, but there's a ton of compositing going on behind the scenes. Every year, during the dark pre-winter days of November, Dutch city Eindhoven is all about Light Festival GLOW. During this festival, which lasts about a week, 30 "light projects" from light artists all around the world are scattered across the city centre and accessible for free. When creating Blender projects, one of the most frustrating parts of the process is rendering. Yes, that grueling, slow process watching tiles render one by one. Obviously, we try and make this go as quickly as possible, but sometimes the shortcuts used effect images in subtle, but undesirable ways.
