Rendering Spaghetti with Benetton Italy
· By Kat
We have helped 3D studio Fabrica render some stunning animations for fashion brands like Benetton and Sisley. This is an interview with one of their 3D artists, Giorgio, and he was kind enough to show us some behind-the-scenes material!
Hi Giorgio! Thank you so much for this opportunity to chat with you about the projects you rendered with Blendergrid. We’re very excited to get to know more about the process and the genesis behind these campaigns and ideas for your fashion brand animations.
Can you tell us a little about the projects, their intended use within your marketing and branding?
We currently cover two different fashion brands: United Colors of Benetton, and Sisley.
We produce and edit videos mainly for the in-store digital signage; thus we deliver a number of different edits based on stores layouts, country/language and more. Some of that content is also re-used in social media communications.

How did you learn about Blender?
Blender is a well-established software, very well-known in the communities of designers, developers, and 3D-artists.
I had come across it many times in the past but never tried it before. When I started experimenting with it I was amazed by the many possibilities it provides and its network of interested and motivated followers.
What was the appeal of using digital assets/animations versus more traditionally created images or videos?
We always look for new ways of expressing our creativity. The fashion brands are always testing and experimenting with new ways of communicating as well.
We still work on both traditional and innovative ways of designing and editing videos. Digital animations were already part of our style.
How did you learn about Blendergrid and what was behind the decision to use a render farm?
We chose Blendergrid for three main reasons:
- It is reliable, the rate of glitched frames is virtually at zero
- It is flexible, the pricing platform allows you to manage parameters such as time and cycle numbers to get major savings in time and/or money
- It is supportive, we experienced an excellent customer care
Have you tried using other 3D software before Blender?
We tried other software, but we finally found Blender was fitting our demands.
What motivated the decision to use Blender for your campaigns?
Its most relevant features: the render engine (Cycles), the lighting system, its community.
The presence of a community is fundamental: it makes the software more reliable and our projects more sound and safer.
Having other content creators sharing their insights and creating tutorials for any need makes a difference in the open-source environment.
How did you find the process of creating the assets and rendering on Blendergrid?
The process was quite smooth and clear - it doesn't cause any special limitations to our creativity.
Moreover, it is very important to get excellent hi-res frames during the process. In 3D productions you're never 100% sure about the final results until you see it fully rendered.
And we also experienced, as customers - in some moments - a good level of assistance and care of our demands. After going through this process will this be something you plan on continuing to do in the future.
Of course, our main goal is continuous experimentation with new ways of creating content and providing emotions to our viewers.
We embraced 3D design because it makes a difference in the visual experience, and we want to pursue that way. At any stage, you understand how much you've learnt and how much you have still to learn.
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer these questions and we’re so excited that we got a chance to partner with you on these projects!
